BJP flays Arundhati Roy for defending Afzal

via Hindustan Times published on October 28, 2006

NEW DELHI : The BJP on Saturday lashed out at author and rights activist Arundhati Roy for demanding clemency for Mohammad Afzal, convicted by the Supreme Court for complicity in the December 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament.

“Those who are supporting Afzal by demanding that he should not be hanged are not only acting against pubic sentiment in the country but are giving a fillip to terrorist morale,” said BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar.

Deploring that Roy and some others could go to the extent of describing Afzal as a prisoner-of-war being tried in the courts of “an occupying country”, he stated that the suggestion was “preposterous and anti-national”.

“No country has witnessed such a defence of a terrorist. They have gone beyond the academic discussion on whether to have capital punishment or not,” the BJP leader said further.

He reiterated the party’s demand for speedy disposal of Afzal’s clemency petition and his hanging.

Filmmaker Anant Patwardhan and freedom fighter Bhagat Singh’s nephew Jagmohan Singh too had earlier raised the demand for commuting Afzal’s death sentence.

All these persons or pseudo-intellectuals who are supporting this dreaded terrorist must be tried for treason and branded as anti-national.
The assets of these people supporting these terrorists need to be investigated and the bank accounts checked to see whether they are getting help from anti-nationals and anti-national interests.Hindus must learn to have economic and social boycott of all anti-hindu and anti-indian persons and businesses and anti-hindu interests and it is imperative to have a strong and nation-wide hindu media to counter our strong enemies in media both in the State as well as in the nation as a whole.BJP by its actions has shown to be a tooth-less party and does not even know how to make enough noise even to garner hindu votes. That is a real pity.Hope RSS makes up for the toothless nature of BJP and other hindu political outfits. 5

People who are ‘defending’ Afzal Guru, the terrorist, are acting against our national interests, and should therefore be tried for treason. They are encouraging terrorists and trying to earn cheap popularity for themselves in the international arena.Nationalist forces should be assertive and demand that such anti-national elements be arrested and tried for treason, however high and mighty he may be.Ofcourse it may be too much to expect from this knock-kneed,spineless Govt. 5

    Dear Sir,

God forbid ,if the same evil would have been directed at these people or their kin, would these social (can’t think of a parliamentary word)hypocrites have had the same emotion.

One thing is there, there is a law of karma which operates unfailingly, those who support evil will eventually be
    devoured by the same.

The current list of those defending the dreaded terrorist Afzal looks like the who’s who of Indian elites and celebrities. This is the group that milks India, slash the funds away abroad and then find a peaceful home somewhere in the western world.THey have no allegience of any kind with the nation.Next to the jihadis, they are the greatest threat to the security of the nation. 5

Why not Afzal be handed over to Arundhati Roy so that she can marry her daughter with him if she has one.Or else she can keep her with him for life.He will be a good companion to her.
