Bhardwaj smokes peace pipe
After spewing venom against BS Yeddyurappa for over a week, Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj has discovered that the Chief Minister was a hardworking person who enjoyed a massive majority. The Governor sang a different tune on Wednesday after the Centre rejected his recommendation to impose President’s rule in the State under intense protest from the BJP.
Bhardwaj smoked the peace pipe hours before the BJP MLAs were scheduled to stage a dharna before the Raj Bhavan in Bangalore on Wednesday evening on return from Delhi where they had staged a show of strength before the Rashtrapati Bahvan. The BJP called off the agitation after Yeddyurappa, along with a few of his colleagues, met Bhardwaj at Raj Bhavan and held discussions with the Governor for a 10-day special session of the Assembly starting June 2. But the ice was broken in the morning when Bhardwaj, who shared dais with Yeddyurappa at a Karnataka Public Service Commission function surprised all by his open praise of the CM. Bhardwaj not only praised Yeddyurappa by saying “the Chief Minister was hardworking†but also acknowledged that the “CM has a massive majority.†“The Chief Minister is an elected representative. Massive majority he has. Nobody ever disputes that. We are friends. These political tensions are irrelevant. We have to dedicate ourselves to the Constitution and to the laws.â€
Describing Yeddyurappa as a hard-working CM who has been toiling for the development of the State, Bhardwaj said, “He is working for 18 to 20 hours a day.†Notwithstanding his warm words, the Chief Minister maintained that the Governor must go and “there is no change in our stand†on the demand for his recall. He said because of the past experience with him of his “attempts to destabilise the Government from day oneâ€, the national leadership of the BJP and he himself had urged the President and the Prime Minister for the Governor’s recall.
