Behind Enemy Lines: deadly ‘Jihadi’ preparations against India

Very recently, exactly on May 15, 2010, a report appeared in Indian media and some international media about the regrouping of Islamic militants in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). When I come across the happenings behind the line of control in recent times, unambiguously I feel that the Jihad against India by the Islamic terrorists is in full swing.

Local populace and political leaders in PoK had said that Militants have recuperated in large numbers in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and are crossing the Line of Control to creep into the Indian side of the Himalayan region. Endorsing the report(mentioned above), local politician Arif Shahid said the militants have regrouped and instigated jihadi activities in the Neelum valley on the Pakistani side of the LoC. Shahid also said the militants were not from PoK, the men have long hair and beards and most of them do not know the local language.

Shahid, the Secretary General of All Parties National Alliance, also cleared that Jihadi activities have been restarted during the last few weeks and they had also set up training camps. Residents of the valley also backed Shahid’s assertions.

The residents in PoK feared that this is the beginning of another proxy war. Since1988, terrorists aided by Pakistani Security forces and intelligence agencies have been carrying a guerrilla campaign in Jammu and Kashmir. On one side Pakistan is talking about peace and on the other they are instigating brazen attacks against India. But yet India offered her hand for friendship without considering the security of nation. Besides these, the infiltration of thousands of terrorists continues, one month ago a television channel in India brought out the visuals of the terrorists’ infiltration across Kashmir border. But the government did not respond. Also Intelligence agencies in India have brought to the notice of the government that Pakistan has been frenetically building up tunnels in areas not far from the border with India. According to these inputs, the tunnels have been dug up in the Sargodha district of Pakistani Punjab. Such tunnels, which are really big in size, clearly can’t be meant for transport as   from the available images. “Unlike ordinary tunnels they don’t lead on to roads,” said an intelligence official who involved in analyzing the information.

The sheer size of the tunnels and the fact that these don’t seem to be leading on to roads have raised suspicion that these could be used to store nuclear weapons or missiles which are battle ready.

The intelligence official said Pakistan has been known to store some of its deadliest, but unassembled, missiles like the Chinese M-11 in a sub-depot near the central ammunition depot in Sargodha. It is also the place where Pakistan’s nuclear capable F-16 aircraft are said to be stationed. Located on the west ofLahore, Sargodha has always been the hub of Pakistan air force and, in fact, is home to its central air command.

Recently Bob Graham, Head of US Commission on the Prevention of WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) observed that Pakistan may depute Taliban to use nuclear weapons against India in the event of escalation of tension between the two South Asian neighbors over Kashmir. US embassy and the other Western foreign missions also warned of possible terror attacks in well-known and crowded markets in the Indian capital.

Continuous terror alerts, regrouping of militants in PoK, infiltration of thousands of terrorists across Kashmir border, secret tunnels for storing nuclear reactor….preparations behind enemy lines are clearly intended to wage a shadow war against India. The need of the hour is to tighten the security measures, to adopt a strategic policy in relations with Pakistan. Otherwise India has to face something exacerbated than Mumbai terror attack.
