“Ocean of Tears” – Propaganda against Bharat

Ocean of the tears is a documentary based on a false or fake incident of mass rape in Kuana Poshpara in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir. It was propagated by separatists that 36 women have been raped in the village in a single night.  The documentary is produced by Rajiv Mehrotra and directed by  Bilal K Jaan under the banner of Public Service Broadcasting Trust and supported by  the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (India).

The movie has been made with the intentions of malign the image of the Bhartiya Army in Jammu and Kashmir. The then Divisional Commissioner Wajahat Habbiluhah investigated the matter and submitted his report and stated “”While the veracity of the complaint is highly doubtful, it still needs to be determined why such complaint was made at all. The people of the village are simple folk and by the Army’s own admission have been generally helpful and even careful of security of the Army’s officers.

The Press Council   appointed a three-member committee, headed by B. G. Verghese, former editor of The Hindustan Times and the Indian Express. Jamna Das Akhtar, a veteran journalist and K. Vikram Rao, special correspondent of The Times of India. However, Akhtar, on account of old age, could not accompany the other two members of the committee. The Committee investigated the matter and concluded that the charges against the army were, “well-concocted bundle of fabricated lies” and “a massive hoax orchestrated by militant groups and their sympathizers and mentors in Kashmir and abroad…for reinscribing Kashmir on the international agenda as a human rights issue. Even the CBI has termed the episode propaganda.

The documentary got support of Groups of Separatists in the State. It is a very serious situation where propaganda of Separatists is supported by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. A written statement at the end the movie states that “  In this matter responsibility must be fixed of the persons or authorities who failed to perceive the anti Nation and anti army intentions of the film maker. The movie has been removed from the you tube but a part of 7 minute is still there. It carries only one sided versions and does not contain the reaction of the Army, the BSF, the CRPF or any government agency .

The movie has been opposed by various sections in the country. As a result, screening of the same is stopped twice at Kashmir University (14 December, 2012) and Aligarh University. The screening of the movie should be opposed as it is a proganda to malign the image of Bhartiya Army at International Level. The movie has been promoted by a section of Media at National and International level and conveneitly ignored the investigations pertaining to the matter. . It can be seen and understood easily by following the links on the Social media as most of them supported by Pakistani Machineries.
