Pune, Nov 11: The growth of Ayurveda, the scientific study of the fundamentals of health, developed by sages some 10,000 years ago, is restricted due to an onslaught by the Allopathy promoting multinational companies and dearth of research, RSS Sarsanghchalak K S Sudarshan said.

All forms of medicines are helpful in curing various health problems of a common man. The utility of Ayurveda, which originated in India 10,000 years ago, has come to be recognised by scientists of the western world for its efficacy, Sudarshan said in a lecture at the Second World Ayurveda congress and Arogya 2006 here today.

Yet Ayurved’s growth is restricted because there is dearth of research by the practitioners and an onslaught by the allopathy- promoting multi-national companies, he said.

China has become a major exporter of herbal medicines with a limited inventory. It has just 15 herbal medicines but has a 70 per cent share in the global herbal market, the RSS Sarsanghchalak said.

He wondered why India which had a reservoir of herbal medicines running into several thousands was lagging behind China in this area.
