Aurangabad’s name changed to Sambhaji Nagar

via HK published on January 6, 2011

Aurangabad,: Aurangabad Municipal Corporation passed resolution to rename the city as  Sambhajinagar, after the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji. The resolution need to be ratified by the state and central governments before it is implemented.

Opposition Congress has opposed the move citing the reason that it will hurt the Muslims in the city . Aurangazeb’s policies of temple looting and destruction and discrimination against Hindus (Jaziya) are now ditto followed by the Congress.

The move comes barely a week after the Pune civic authorities shifted a statue of the legendary Dadoji Konddev, Shivaji’s teacher, from the prime Lal Mahal area amid stiff opposition from the Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party.
