The Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha, Mr L K Advani has said that a law should be introduced at the national level to stop religious conversions.

Speaking at a public function here as part of his “Bharat Suraksha Yatra”, Mr Advani said that conversion had been inflicting injury into the Hindu society and hence the party had been demanding that strict action should be taken against those perpetrating conversions in the country using force and by lure.

He said that religious conversions were a threat not only to the Hindu society but also to the entire nation. The veteran BJP leader said that it was a blessing that an awareness campaign against conversions could be launched from this temple town.

Proselytizing en masse of the weaker section of the Hindus should be stopped. The opposition of the Hindu organisations against the religious conversions is branded as communal and anti-minority, he pointed out.

After the Congress came to power in Andhra Pradesh large scale proselytizing has been taking place, he alleged.
