Anti-conersion bill rejected by Rajasthan Governer

Jaipur, May 19: Rajasthan Dharma Swatantrya Bill 2006 was rejected by the Governer today. 

The Bill seeks to control any illegal activities and to maintain harmony among people of various religions. Under the provisions of the Bill, any attempt to convert someone or conversion through unlawful or coercive means is made punishable with simple imprisonment for a minimum two years and extendable up to five years. There is also a provision of monetary fine up to Rs 50,000 for the offence. Any offence under this Act would be a cognisable and non-bailable offence.

 

The Governor Ms Pratibha Patel returned the anti-conversion Bill sent to her for approval by the state government, with a suggestion to seek Presidential consent first.There were much conversion attempts reported from Rajasthan last yearespecially at Kota and other tribal areas of Banswara and Dungarpur in the state by allurment.


The Congress party as usual  opposed the Bill from the starting as Minority appeasement is the parties main agenda The Governor had rejected the bill citing the objections made by the Opposition congress and a memoranda submitted by some Christian organisations along with the Bill to the government.
