Speaking at Ahmedabad’s Bhaikaka Bhavan, Shri Subramaniam Swamy on Wednesday told the audience why Sonia Gandhi couldn’t become India’s Prime Minister after Congress was ready to form government in centre under her leadership.

Shri Swamy said he had written a letter to then President (Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam) with all technical details on why Sonia Gandhi should not be allowed to become India’s Prime Minister.

Swamy said he had written in that letter to the President that if Sonia would be allowed to become PM, the decision would be challenged in Court immediately.

Swamy said that after his letter objecting any move to allow Sonia to become nation’s PM reached the President, a phone rang at his place and he was called to the President immediately in reference to his letter.

Swamy said he met the President office person who was also Tamil at 1.00 pm, and at 5.00 pm Sonia Gandhi was scheduled to come to the President’s house to talk about formation of government. In fact the President had called her.

Swamy told the President that due to several technical points, it was not proper to allow Sonia to become the Prime Minister of India. The President’s official sought specific details. Swamy replied that according to India’s Citizenship act, while a common person of India can not be deprived of his right to the citizenship of India, a foreign born person with foreign parents gets privilege of citizenship of India only with several conditions.

Swamy told President that a foreign person who becomes citizen of India does not get all that privileges here on this land that his/her country of origin would not provide to any Indian person who becomes citizen there.

“If an Indian person even after becoming Italian citizen, can not become Prime Minister of Italy, then according to our Citizenship act Sonia Gandhi even after becoming Indian citizen can not become Prime Minister here,” Swamy said he told the President.

Swamy said, more than 300 individual letters of elected members of parliament had reached Rashtrapati Bhavan expressing support to Sonia Gandhi’s candidature for Prime Minister’s post.

“Among those letters there was also a letter written by Sonia Gandhi herself supporting her own candidature for Prime Ministerial post,” Swamy said attracting a round of laughter in audience.

He said after his meeting, the President wrote letters to three persons including Natvar Singh showing his inability to allow Sonia to become the Prime Minister of India immediately.

According to Swamy, the President in his letter to three Congress leaders said that he would first seek clarification on some points(raised by Subramaniam Swamy) from competent authority(Supreme Court) if Congress party still wants to choose Sonia for top post and in that case, the swearing in ceremony should be held sometime in future after clarification is received and doubts are cleared.

This resulted into Sonia’s so called ‘balidan’ and choice of Manmohan Singh for the post of Prime Minister according to Swamy.

Swamy’s this narration attracted huge round of applause among the audience for few minutes in packed auditorium of Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening.
