Subject: Apathy of a handicapped NSG. Commando/Recipient of Shaurya Chakra; undergoing recovery, at Kannur Valapattanam Police Station at the hands of SI Mr. J.E Jayan.
Respected Sir,
My brother Shri. P.V. Maneesh was part of the deployment at the Trident Hotel Mumbai on the 27-11-2008 to save the lives of civilians & prevent unprovoked destruction at the hands of Pakistan based terrorists. He was injured in the action which followed & he is still undergoing treatment for regaining his health for which he still needs a bystander for his daily routines. However, he still manages to walk with the aid of an ortho recommended walking stick. Still a splinter of grenade lies held up in his skull and it can’t be removed for medical reasons. His entire skull is grafted with a steel capping. Whenever he is into anxiety, he has Epileptic seizures/fits.
But he tries to maintain himself calm. He willingly choose defence for his lively-hood, he is 100% happy for the things what he could do for the Nation. He is still on the path of total recovery.
His patriotism has earned him the honour of being a recipient of Shaurya Chakra for his act of courage at Trident Hotel. But then, an incident at Valapattanam Police Station has really given him a setback in health & moral, which shouldn’t have happened to any defence personnel. He had filed a petition on the basis of a threat given to me as well as my brother by my business partner Mr. Sreejith on the 28-12-2012. This was with regard to a business partnership over a telephonic conversation. Because of my brother’s disability, he sent me for giving the written complaint of the same at the Police Station.
On being asked to come on 05-01-2012 & since my brother could not be present there in person due to his disability, he sent me to the Police Station. When I reached there, the first thing that the SI said was that I should produce my brother before him on the grounds that if he can go about with his daily morning routines, then he should be able to produce himself in front of him in person. Further he said, said that if I am not able to produce my brother in the Police Station, then he will take me into custody. Thus, we were left completely helpless in this situation & we had to bring a disabled man who is having a steel cap in his head, for medical reasons to the Police Station.
Now, on being present, instead of having a proper discussion or a meaningful discussion towards dispute resolution, the SI tried his level best in humiliating my brother and insulting him to the maximum. My brother felt like there the money power & the political influence of Mr. Sreejith(my business partner) was at work in bringing a quick solution on a war-footing rather than a proper dispute settlement. One by one insults rained on my brother. And my brother stood there again a soldier, holding on to his crutches. Even in this situation, the SI didn’t have the minimum courtesy to even offer my brother a seat considering his disability. The SI, then started misusing his verbal skills very liberally, unparliamentary language thus – “Who made you a commando”, “It was not only you who fought with them, there were many”, “There was one who died from Calicut (Kozhikode)”. He was insulting & making a mockery of even the late Mr. Sandeep Unnikrishnan – NSG. Commando who lost his life in the attack. He went on – “So he too died”.
On the whole the SI never left anything unturned. It was a complete mockery, insult & ridiculing of all patriots of this Nation.
This, incident on the 5th of January has ruined him totally, both mentally & physically. It appears like he is back to from where he started. Epilepsy has again conquered him & he is hospitalized in Ernakulam at this moment. He also didn’t spare those who were martyred or injured on 26-11-2008. The vilification crossed all borders, thus was the SI’s response. He felt that he has quenched his feelings towards my brother. There are words which we cannot quote here, threats which even goes against our existence in this world. My brother therefore kept these to himself because, the people who gave him the motivation wants to see more of him. So, for security reasons & to keep unrest at bay, he kept mum, as he loves harmony. Its not hatred that brings people together.
I therefore pray that your good office will look into this blazing issue & do the needful. A quick action for this suffering & insecurity is highly appreciated from you side, Sir. If a Nation’s police cannot help its own men in uniform, then what sort of assurances of safety, security or justice is it giving to a common man.
I beg to remain.
Yours affectionately,
P.V. Manoj
