Ahead of poll, Gujarat Cong leaders join BJP
With elections
approaching near, cases of defection in political parties are on the
rise. For Gujarat BJP, it was a week that ended on a good note with
many prominent leaders from opposition parties joining it. Former
Minister Manoharsinh Jadeja, Congress leader and a scion of the
erstwhile royal family of Rajkot joined the BJP on Sunday with his
supporters.
Jadeja was minister in many Congress Cabinets in
the State. He represented Rajkot Assembly seat several times in the
past and remains party’s most respected leader in the Saurashtra area.
Jadeja’s
son Mandhatasinh who also joined the BJP in Rajkot on Sunday said he
admits that Gujarat has progressed tremendously under Narendra Modi.
Mandhatasinh also added that Modi’s stewardship has made Gujarat the
most investor-friendly State in the country.
Along with
Mandhata-sinh, many others who joined the BJP on Sunday include
Rajkot’s eminent industrialist and educationist Kiran Patel. There is
speculation that Kiran Patel might be given the BJP ticket from Rajkot
as sitting MP Dr Vallabh Kathiria is most likely to be dropped as per
the “no repeat†theory being vigorously propagated by Chief Minister
Modi.
Kathiria had joined the anti-Modi tirade during the
Assembly elections in 2007. Former BJP MP from Jamnagar, Chandresh
Patel, former BJP MLA from Veraval, Chunibhai Gohil and former
Surendranagar MLA Dhanraj Kella are also reportedly joining the BJP.
They had quit the BJP on being denied the tickets for the elections.
