Abhaya case: Two nuns missing
KOCHI: Two nuns closely related to the Sister Abhaya murder case is reported missing. One nun, an inmate of Kottayam Pious X Convent, escaped from the hands of the murderers by sheer luck. The second nun identified as Sister Annie was the one who told Abhaya’s parents about the murderers.
The CBI team, who probed the case earlier, did not make any effort to trace them even though they knew that these two nuns knew about the murder.
The then CBI team received a letter on September 25, 1996 mentioning the details of the nun, who escaped from the hands of the murderers. The letter said that the then mother superior Lisiou asked the nun, who witnessed the murder, to go back home.
When the CBI demanded the list of names of those in the convent, the authorities furnished one excluding the names of the nuns.
The CBI firmly believed that Sister Annie, an inmate of the convent was aware of the murder.
Abhaya’s parents told the CBI that she was murdered as she knew about the two priests’ illicit relationship with some of the nuns of the convent.
The former CBI team could not register the actual position as Annie died after a few days of Abhaya’s murder.
