A letter bomb, 16 years and a verdict

CHENNAI: After a letter bomb sent by Jihadis exploded and killed a Hindu Munnani worker leader Muthukrishnan’s wife Thangam 16 years lapsed. Last week, Judge Vanhagaamudi delivered a verdict of life imprisonment to five Muslims in connection with the crime. Among them Ribai is the newly elected State President of TMMK (Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham), a muslim outfit. It happened thus:

On 3rd July 1995, Smt Thangam, wife of Hindu Munnani worker received a parcel claiming to contain the copy of Bhagavat Gita. On opening the parcel, it exploded and killed her. On the same day, in the same manner, another parcel containing bomb was sent to Jagaveera Pandian of Mayiladuthurai. Since he was not there, the parcel was returned back. Later, police found a bomb in that parcel also. Police registered the two cases and arrested 7 Muslims naming Aru.Ismail, Ribai, Kutubuddin, Raja Hussain, Zakir Hussain, Subair, and Abdul Azeez. Out of seven, 5 were arrested and they have been punished with life imprisonment.
