Declining Christian Population in United States of America

This message is to convey an important statistical information revealed by American Religious Identification Survey, 2008 ( ARIS, 2008 ). According to Reports and Data on the Survey, in 1990 86.2% of the American population declared themselves as Christians. But in 2001 it declined to 76.7% which further fall to less than 76% in 2008.

According to various sources, the reasons for the decline are corruption of funds by Christian clergy and increasing number of sexual abuse in Church.

Second important thing revealed by the American Religious Identification Survey, 2008, is increasing number of American citizens who are distancing from Christianity. In 1990, 8.2 % of the US population declared asNot attached with any religion” which grew to 14.2 % in 2001 and at present more than 15%.

According to the survey, we Hindus forms around 10 Lakhs in USA. Survey also states that normally Asian-Americans declare themselves as -Not attached with Any Religions.

At present various Hindu groups like ISCON etc are working for the popularization of Hinduism in USA. But a well coordinated efforts for this is needed to reach the American masses who suffocated by sexual abuse and financial misappropriations of Christian Institutions.
