Pak deaf to BSF protest

Paying no heed to the strong protests lodged by the BSF during two rounds of Flag meetings on Tuesday, Pakistani Rangers on Wednesday yet again violated the ceasefire — the third time in less than 24 hours.

Resuming overnight fire on forward Indian posts along the Pargwal sub-sector of Akhnoor in Jammu frontier, Pakistani Rangers targeted Chak Phagwari border post and ambush parties on routine patrol duties.

According to ground reports, after exchanging intermittent fire throughout the night, firing from the Pakistani side resumed around 5 am and continued till 6.15 am, during which Pakistani Rangers also fired mortar shells.

Two BSF jawans had died on Tuesday in two separate incidents of firing from across the border.

Interacting informally with the media at the BSF headquarters in Paloura, PPS Sidhu said, “Two BSF jawans were killed in cross-border firing, which continued on Wednesday. A strong protest has been lodged with our Pakistani counterparts at the appropriate level.” He said the BSF would review the situation and, if required, would take appropriate measures.

On the question of rushing more troops to the border area for plugging the gaps and better vigil, the BSF officer said, “Already, adequate strength is deployed along the border to defend the frontiers of the nation.”
