New Delhi, Nov. 28 (ANI): Expressing concern over Bhutan’s alleged orders for 3000 Indians to leave the country by tomorrow, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Jolly on Monday said that the orders would strain relations between the two countries.

“We have come over to express our sense of deep concern, dismay and disappointment over the reported orders of the Bhutan Government, asking the people of Indian origin in Bhutan to quit Bhutan immediately and cease their business activities.

This violates the India-Bhutan friendship treaty clause 5, which envisages a closer co-relation between the people of the two nations,” he told mediapersons here.

Jolly further said that Bhutan’s Ministry of Labour and Human Resources had directed the people of Indian origin to leave the country.

“The people of Indian origin living in Bhutan for more than fifty years, doing petty business and trade there should not be uprooted and His majesty, the King of Bhutan, should take cognizance of the protest of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” he said.

On behalf of the BJP, Jolly urged the Bhutanese government to revoke the orders.

Jolly met Bhutanese Ambassador Major General Vetsop Namgyel earlier in the day and handed him a memorandum, stating that the latter must acknowledge the fact that Indians have been living in Bhutan for the last four decades. (ANI)
