Namaste HAF Supporters-

We need you to urgently act! Call the TLHRC in the next 12 hours and let them know it is unacceptable to have a disgraced, anti-Hindu academic with possible links to Pakistan’s ISI testifying at a Congressional Hearing on human rights.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 21, the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission (TLHRC) is scheduled to hold a Hearing on the Challenges Facing Religious Minorities in South Asia. The Commission, has unfortunately invited Angana Chatterji, a disgraced academic well-known for her blatantly biased anti-Hindu and anti-India views to testify at the Hearing as a witness. There is strong indication that Ms. Chatterji has had a longstanding relationship and enjoyed close ties with Ghulam Nabi Fai. Fai, as many of you may know, was arrested by the FBI and convicted late last year for illegally lobbying on behalf of the ISI, Pakistan’s spy agency (click here to see letter for details).

Last Friday, HAF contacted the offices of the TLHRC and its Co-Chairs, Congressman James P. McGovern (D-MA) and Congressman Frank R. Wolf (R-VA) (click here to see letter) to express our strong concerns with Ms. Chatterji’s presence at the Hearing and request her removal as a witness. Ms. Chatterji, however, continues to remain on the witness list for the Hearing.

Time is of the essence. Please call in the next 12 hours. Here is a sample message for your convenience:

“Hello. My name is Sheetal Shah and I’m calling to express my serious concern about Ms. Angana Chatterji’s participation at the upcoming Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission Hearing on Challenges Facing Religious Minorities in South Asia. Ms. Chatterji is well known for her intolerant anti-Hindu and anti-India views, and has alleged links to Pakistan’s ISI spy agency. Her presence as a witness at the Hearing will undermine the reputation of the Commission. I strongly urge the Commission to reconsider its inclusion of Ms. Chatterji as a witness for the Hearing. Thank you.”
