Malappuram: BJP’s candidate for Malappuram constituency Badusha Thangal faces series of death threats, allegedly from Muslim League. According to sources, the death threats, intimidating him against withdrawing his candidature, come via phone calls from both native and foreign turfs.

Thangal hails from a distinguished family of Muslim clerics and his candidature with BJP has placed the Muslim League on jittery grounds. Sources have indicated that he has garnered mass support from the section of people, who have strong nationalistic views and who stand opposed to League. This is said to have made him a formidable opponent in the turf of Panakkadu Thangals.

Sources indicate that even though police have been informed of calls coming from Bangalore, Chennai and Gulf countries, they have taken scant measures to probe into the same. Badusha Thangal says that the calls threatened him about ensuring that he is not seen anywhere on public forums in Malappuram, the stronghold of Panakkad family or on television channels. He however remains undaunted even in the wake of these threats.

“The surge of threat phone calls are a source of anxiety for family members. Members of Muslim League are also ensuring that I am denied even the basic freedom to move about. Apart from blocking my vehicles and resorting to spewing of foul language, hindering my way to the mosque when I go for offering prayers are some of the methods being resorted to by League to take revenge,” said Badusha Thangal.

Reports indicate that the malicious propaganda being initiated by Muslim League has tumbled down like a pack of cards, with the entry of Badusha Thangal. “This is the sole reason why he is being faced with death threats, which is being seen as part of desperate measures in trying to dissuade him from contesting from BJP ticket,” said sources.

“You may contest, but must refrain from active campaigning. Certain views that you air on public platforms, which border on truth, must not be uttered any more. This will cause intent harm to our community interests. So kindly be moderate while airing views,” said one the latest threat calls.

“These terror groups, which issue threats on covert, will not hamper my work in any way,” said Thangal.
