Saudi contribution to Islam:Misyar prostitution!

via HK Correspondent published on July 21, 2006

Legalised prostitution? Well you decide.

In a country famous for its ultraconservative Islamism, Saudi Arabia has been in the lime light for all the right reasons when it comes to human rights abuse.

The Saudi society sees the contact between men and women unrelated by marriage as blasphemous. And often this has led to many a be headings.

But inside this society ruled by the fundamentalist minded people exists the Misyar. The misyar, allowed by Sunni Islam permits men and women to get together without getting married. Thousands of men in Saudi Arabia have Misyar contracts which helps them maintain a relationship with a woman of his choice without actually having to marry her or provide for her.The misyar is usually used to get out of the expensive marriage rituals and the problems faced by unmarried women.

The men who make misyar contracts are mostly married men and the women are usually those who are divorced and women who have crossed marriageable age.The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice is having a nightmare due the problems arising from these misyar arrangements. often the girls family knows of the arrangement and the men’s family doesn’t. A pregnancy leads to problems withing the two families and often leads to divorce and disgrace.

The misyar is a shortcut, the bearded mullah’s have found to satisfy the arab men’s lust. At times even the women have agreed to such arrangements citing adult needs. For sociologists this arrangement is something they can’t comprehend. They say it creates confusions inside a society and give various dimensions to relationships which is not good for a future generation. The saudi men’s contention is why-buy-the-cow-when-the-milk-is-free !

Surprisingly this does not exist in Saudi Arabia alone. many countries like Malasiya have this arrangement within its society. And its spreading into other Muslim communities too. Wouldn’t be surprised to find the arrangement in India also where certain Muslims are bent on following the Saudi traditions.
