First ISO 9001 Hindu temple in Malaysia
KLANG: Klang Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple is believed to be the first Hindu temple in Malaysia to achieve the ISO 9001:2000 certification for its quality in religious, cultural, and social services to Hindus.
Temple president S. Anandakrishnan said that with the ISO award, religious activities would be standardised to set a precedent for other Hindu temples.
The Sundararaja temple known as “Thirupati of South-east Asia†after its famous namesake in India is the largest Vaishnavite temple in West Malaysia. It was built more than 100 years ago.
Anandakrishnan said the temple received ISO certification in November.
“Other temples are not bound to follow our standard operating procedure (SOP), but we wanted to set a benchmark so that people will know we provide quality services,†he said.
He added that standard guidelines would be put into place such as the do’s and don’ts for priests while conducting prayers and reservations of the temple hall for wedding ceremonies.
Works Minister and MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu will officiate the award ceremony on Wednesday. The Malaysian Book of Records will present a certificate to mark the achievement. – Bernama.
