(Translation from Tamil; report in Dinamani, Tamil daily, July 11, 2007)

Tiruchi, July 11: For the forthcoming conference on Rama Setu Protection to be held in Madurai on 22nd July, Chief Minister Karunanidhi is invited, said Hindu Munnani Founder Rama Gopalan.

On the issue of Rama Setu, our concerns have not been opposed by anyone based on scientific perspective, but opposed only using authority of governance.

We propose to hold a conference on 22 July in Madurai to create awareness among the citizens for Rama Setu Protection. Leaders including VHP leader Praveen Togadia and leaders of political parties will participate.

All Chief Ministers of all states including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will be invited to participate in the Conference.

Next action plans will be announced in the Conference.

No public participation occurred for the Rama Setu project unlike the participation during project proposed to expand Kudangulam Atomic Power Station. Why is the administration afraid of asking public opinion on Rama Setu issue? Even opinions of the security agencies have not been asked for.

We are not saying no to Sethusamudram project. We are only saying no to destroying Rama Setu.

During 19th to 29th , in Chennai Tiruvanmiyur, Sudars’ana yajna will be performed in 108 vedi-s.

Members of Sarvades’a S’ri Vaishnava Dharma Protection Sangha met us and informed us that to protect Rama Setu 1008 people are ready to sacrifice their lives.

Many more people say that it is their duty to offer prayers, let God punish those who destroy Rama Setu, said Rama Gopalan.
