THRISSUR: After a gap of 16 years, Thrissur town is getting ready for an 11-day Srimad Bhagavatha Sathram beginning from October 9.

Talking to reporters here on Monday, the organising committee members said that over 5,000 devotees are expected to attend the Sathram.

Arrangements for providing them accommodation and food are being made.

The Sathram would be officially inaugurated by Uthradam Thirunal Marthandavarma of the Travancore royal family on October 10 at 5 pm at a function presided over by Bhagavatha Hamsam Malliyoor Shankaran Namboodiri.

Recital of the Srimad Bhagavatham (moolam) and discourses will be the highlight of the programme.

Bhajans and naama japam will also form part of the Sathram.

The organisers said that the Sathram is estimated to cost Rs 60 lakh and this amount would be collected by way of contributions and sponsorships.
