‘Brahmin community positive to social causes’

KALADY: The Brahmin community as a whole has been always reacting positively towards the social causes,  Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakarishnan said here on Saturday.


Inaugurating the two-day state conference of the Yogakshema Sabha here, Thiruvanchoor Radhakarishnan said that those who had surrendered their land following the land reforms should be adequately compensated. The Brahmins who were entitled to get compensation as Janmi Karam for giving their property on the basis of the Land Reforms Act were not getting it. According to a study, there was arrears of `5 crore as compensation to the Brahmins till 2006, he said.

Criminals are very rare in the Brahmin community. The community always wished for justice to prevail in the society, he said.

Adi Sankara was a mobile encyclopedia. The modern generation should give more importance to Adi Sankara.  The minister offered to set up an Adi Sankara Kendram in Thiruvananthapuram.

He said that even before the Independence, the kings and members of the royal family were aware of the treasure at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple. They did not loot the valuables from the temple. The allegation that some members of the Royal family stole from the treasure was baseless, he said.

Delivering the keynote address, K P Dhanapalan MP said that Yogakshema Sabha should come forward to lead the reform activities of the society. Kalady, the birthplace of Adi Sankaracharya, was remaining ignored. He urged the Yogakshema Sabha to appeal to the Union Government to name the proposed railway station at Kalady after Adi Sankara. Dhanapalan offered to support the cause.

Former minister Jose Thettayil MLA distributed the medical aid and pension. Yogakshema Sabha president Akkeeraman Kalidasa Bhattathiripad presided over the inaugural session. Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri, Kakkad Parameswaran Namboodiri and P V Sivadas spoke.

Vanitha meet and youth meet and Acharya Sadas were held on Saturday as part of the state conference which will conclude on Sunday.
