Nadapuram: In spite of shedding tears of utter grief, the police never even turned in our direction. We made frantic calls to the police as those armed assailants barged towards our home. We pleaded with them to save us. But they merely shrugged aside matter, saying there was no one available at the station to come over. The assailants stormed inside and snatched the gold earring worn by my elderly mother. They tramped down on my belly. I lost my balance and fell down,” the terror stricken narration by Jeevana, wife of Anil Kumar of Nadapuram. Recounting instances of panic and dread are several families in Vadakara, where following the victory of LDF was a spate of violence unleashed by CPM.

It is a well known fact that police have not even conducted primary investigations in these areas, in spite of frantic calls for help. “The assaulter screamed out their thirst for Anil’s blood,” said his wife. “Our relatives who heard the commotion rushed to our rescue, but were wounded mercilessly with the weapons they wielded”.

Detailing how their three daughters, tiny tots themselves stood petrified and ran for shelter under the cot, Jeevana said,”Last year, in a span of 18 months, our home has been attacked thrice. And when CPM goons unleashed terror, no one from Nadapuram police station, which stands just over a kilo metre away, came to our rescue.” Jeevana added that her husband’s lorry was completely destroyed by the marauders.

Anil Kumar’s 75 year old mother Paruamma is grief stricken following the incident. She had painstakingly saved a precious rupees two thousand from the farmers’ pension she was receiving. “It was kept safe under my cot. But the assailants stole the amount.”

What has left the family badly shaken is the lax and completely cloyed attitude donned by police personnel. “Days have passed but not a single police personnel has ever passed this way. May be they plan to arrive for our funerals,” said Jeeva breaking into tears.
