Sree Ayyappa Dharma Parishath’s Harivarasanam Awards announced

KOTTAYAM: Lyrist R. K. Damodaran, singer P. Jayachandran, Padmashree Bhakthavalsalam and nagaswaram exponent Tiruvizha Jayasankar have been selected for the Harivarasanam awards,instituted by the Sree Ayyappa Dharma Parishath.

While R. K. Damodaran has been selected for penning more than 1,500 Ayyappa devotional songs in his long career, P. Jayachandran earned laurels for his soulful rendering of songs in praise of Lord Ayyappa.

Bhakthavalsalam, a native of Coimbatore, was honoured for his yeomen service for devotees every year during the pilgrim season.

Tiruvizha Jayasankar gets the honour in recognition of his talent in nagswaram.

The awardees were judged by a three-member panel comprising Akeeraman Kalidasa Bhattathirippad, M G University registrar M. R. Unni and P. G.Vijayakumar.

The award, carrying a memento, will be presented at the international conference of the Parishath, planned here this month end, said general secretary Ayarkunnam Raman Nair, P. G. Vijayakumar and Trivikraman at a news conference here on Thursday
