Spirituality is not a brain game: Amritanandamayi

via Pioneer News Service | Kochi published on April 28, 2007

Mata Amritanandamayi has asked the people to respond positively to experiences in life without losing poise of mind in any situation and to enrich life with those experiences.

Addressing devotees at a Satsang organised as part of the ongoing annual festival of the Brahmasthanam temple at Edappaly here on Saturday, Amritanandamayi said that the number of scriptures read or Satsangs attended was no criterion for gauging the spiritual evolution of an individual. “The vital question is to what extent the eternal values have been imbibed in life,” she said.

“We have knowledge today, but lack consciousness. We have sharp brains, but he hearts are drying up. We built beautiful houses but in these live broken families. While we are trying to reach the moon, we are far away from our neighbours,” Amritanandamayo said.

She urged her devotees to learn themselves first before getting ready to tackle external problems. “One who succeeds in mastering own mind would succeed in winning the world. Winning over people by using money or power will be temporary. That could hurt their sentiments and also create ill will,” she said.
