Rashtraraksha Sanchalan, an all-Kerala march being conducted by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from January 5 to promote nationalism, covered Kasargod and Kannur districts by Sunday evening.

Thousands of people paid homage to the Rashtra Raksha Jyothi, a torch lighted from the resting place of Pazhassi Raja at Mananthavady.

Thousands of people participated in the four public meetings held as part of the sanchalan in the two districts.

The meeting held at Kanjangad was attended by around 3,000 persons from the public while the one at Payyannur was attended by more than 3,500.

The meeting held at Kannur Stadium on Saturday evening was attended by around 5,000 persons, said RSS officials.

The march was received in all main junctions by scores of people with ‘pushparchana’ (showering of flowers) to welcome the Rashtra Raksha Jyothi

The march is being conducted as a forerunner to the birth centenary celebrations of PP Madhava Sadashivarao Golwalkar, the second Sarsanghachalak of RSS, who is known as Guruji.

The Rashtra Raksha Jyothi was lighted to mark the 200th sacrifice day of Pazhassi Raja, who engaged the British through guerrilla warfare and spearhead the resistance movement in Kerala.

The march consisted of around 40 members of RSS band troupe, who marched around five kilometres and are subsequently replaced by a similar troupe from the adjacent area.

Thus, the band troupes is going to cover 700 kilometres in 20 days to a grand finale at Thiruvananthapuram

By Sunday evening, 112.7 kilometres has been covered and it entered into Kozhikode district limits.

In the valedictory function on the evening of Republic Day at Thiruvananthapuram, RSS national leader Mohan Bhagwat would address the gathering, which would consist of around 5,000 band troupe members, said RSS officials
