Rathayatra flagged off at Guruvayur

GURUVAYUR: The ‘Rathayatra’ carrying the silver idol of Lord Krishna for installation at the venue of 27th annual Akhila Bharatha Srimat Bhagavatha Satram started from the East Gopuram of the Sree Krishna temple here on Friday.

The Sathram is scheduled to begin on the premises of the Ernakulam Siva temple on December 19.

The silver idol of Lord Krishna weighing over 15 kg and costing nearly Rs 6 lakh was offered to the Bhagavatha Sathram by Bhagavatha scholar Prema Panduranga. Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple Ooralan Mallissery Parameswaran Namboothiripad flagged off the Rathayatra in the presence of Guruvayur Devaswom chairman Thottathil Raveendran, administrator V Ratheesan, deputy administrator P V Somasundaram and Guruvayur Mani Swami amidst chanting of prayers.

The Rathayatra will be accorded reception at various temples.

The Satram will begin on 19th December with the recital and discourse on Bhagavatha Mahatmyam.
