KOCHI: The eight-day Pongala Mahotsavam at Pavakkulam Mahadeva temple concluded on Friday.

Thousands of devotees offered pongala nivedyam. The festival is celebrated as part of the 48th Naranga Vilakku Mahotsavam at the temple.

The festival began with kappukettal on September 28. Special poojas like Kalasapooja, Vidyagopala Manthrapooja, Sreechakrapooja and poomoodal were conducted at the temple. Chandikahavanam, Thripurasundaree Homam, Aswarooda Homam and prasadamoottu were also held.

Devotees from different places took part in the festival. “The special poojas were conducted with the participation of the devotees. These rituals aim at mental purification before offering pongala nivedyam,” said Babu, one of the organisers.

More than 9,000 pongala kits were prepared for the devotees. After the pongala, annadanam was conducted for more than 20,000 people.
