Ottamthulal returns to Ambalapuzha
Ambalapuzha, May07
Ottamthullal, a satirical dance form, has ultimately returned to Ambalapuzha temple, thanks to the Travncore Devaswom Board (TDB).
Ottamthullal was banned from performing in the Ambalapuzha Sreekrishna temple, about 250 years ago by the then King of Ambalapuzha following allegations that the Ottamthullal exponent Kunjan Nambiar derided the Chakyar Kootthu, another form of traditional dance, also satirical held in the temple.
Since then it was not being performed there. The TDB President, Mr G Raman Nair, said he had ordered the re-introduction of Ottamthullal. On Friday, the renowned Ottamthullal Exponent, Kalamandalam Prabhakaran has performed at the temple which was inaugurated by Mr Nair in the presence of a large audience.
