Only Ram temple should be built in Ayodhya : Sri Sri Ravi Sankar

via HK Correspondent published on December 11, 2006

CHENNAI : The founder of the art of living, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar emphasized that in Ayodhya, only the temple of Sree Ram should built since only the temple of Ram existed there and that status quo cannot be changed. Ravi Shankarji was giving his views while attending an interview for a popular English daily.

He said the temple should be constructed exactly on the same spot where it existed centuries ago. In Ayodhya a mosque was there but much before that Sree Ramachandraji’s temple stood there.

This is part of history. Let us suppose Ayodhya was the birth place of Mohd Nabi or Jesus Christ and let’s imagine someone built a Hindu temple there. Can we believe the uproar the whole world will make over this issue? They (Muslims or Christians) will tell us to demolish the temple and go somewhere else since it’s a holy place for them. Ravi Shankerji told the interviewer. We have to follow the same criteria regarding Ayodhya also since it is the birth place of Sree Ram. This is a matter of the sentiments of crores of Hindus. He also pointed out that building a mosque in Ayodhya will be a big waste since it will not be utilised much because only a meager number of devotees will visit a mosque in Ayodhya.

Muslims in general don’t have any objections towards building a temple in Ayodhya. Only a handful of Maulavis and Fakirs are creating unnecessary disputes. These are the very religious fundamentalists who do not give freedom and equal rights to Muslim women. These groups of fundamentalists do support Osama bin laden and Al Quida terrorists.

We cannot define minority appeasement for vote-bank politics as SECULARISM. There should be a broad perspective. The politicians should focus their thoughts on long-term gains to the nation and not just the party or the constituency and their own chair. Thats why I emphasize on spiritualizing politics; secularizing religion and socializing trade and commerce. That is the right path, said Ravi Shankerji.
