Now, Ramayana and Thirukkural in Mobile Phones

Reading the Ramayana during the Malayalam month of Karkkidakom would no longer be a ritualistic affair confined to homes. You can read the epic poem from wherever you are.

P.R.Harikumar, a selection grade lecturer in the Malayalam Department of Sree Sankara College, Kalady, has fed all the`kandas’ of the Thunchathu Ezhuthassan’s Adhyatma Ramayana in Malayalam into his mobile phone. Now, one can simply browse the entire epic in a mobile screen. It would occupy a space of only 340 KB while an MP 3 song would occupy 4 MB space.

Harikumar has always been interested in reading Malayalam articles and poems on his mobile phone. It was during one of his Internet browsing that he came across an e-book reader, which helps download Internet files, pages or text files to a Java-enabled mobile phone. This prompted him to try and put the Ramayana into his mobile.

This is the first book, which is converted into a mobile edition in any Indian language.He also developed Thirukkural in Tamil

Before downloading these Java(Jar) files-

 Ramayanam  is prepared as Java applications for mobile phones- you must know about the possibilities of your  mobile phone. Has it Java downloading capacity? Has it enough memory to store the files? Has it a way to connect the phone with ur computer? If the answer is ‘Yes’ to all these questions you can go forward to download the files from the net.To find out answers to these questions you must read the Phone Manual carefully.These files are textual and only meant for reading. The files helps you to read the books on mobile in its original language scripts.

Do save these files in ‘My Documents’ with all other files. Don’t save it as a Winzip file. Don’t open these files in your computer. It is workable only on mobiles.So transfer the file to your mobile via bluetooth ,Infrared or Data Cable. As these are application files save in your mobile’s application folder.

After installation open the file and do adjustments in the “Options” of the book reader for a clear look and smooth reading.
