Makom Thozal held at Chottanikkara
Thousands of devotees queued up at the Chottanikkara Devi temple to get a darshan of the presiding deity Rajarajeswari on the occasion of Makam Thozal.
With the opening of the sanctum sanctorum at 2.00 pm on Saturday the temple premises reverberated with the humming of Ammenarayana Devinarayana, Lakshminarayana, Bhadrenarayana.
The sanctum sanctorum remained open for the devotees to offer their prayers till 8.30 pm. It is believed that Bhagavathy in her full attire gave darshan to Vilwamangalam Swamiyar on the Makom day, which falls in the Malayalam month of Kumbham and since then she appears on the same day every year for giving darshan to the devotees in that special attire.
The authorities made all arrangements to provide maximum facilities to the devotees waiting for hours in the long queue. Volunteers could be seen running around with bottles and sachets of water for the devotees.
