Lakshadeepam concluded at Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple
Thiruvananthapuram:Lakshadeepam -the festival of lights, which comes once in every six years at the Sreepadmanabha Swamy Temple, was celebrated on January 14, the Makara Sankranthi Day.
The Festival marked the end of the 56-day long Murajapam, which began on November 21, 2007.More than 25,000 devotees throng to have a glimpse of this divine festival which happens only in every Six years.
Lakshadeepam was first conducted by Maharaja Anizhom Thirunal Marthanda Varma in 1750 AD for the prosperity of the land and welfare of the people. This practice has been followed by the successive rulers of Travancore.
