Kishan Reddy elected as new AP BJP president

BJP MLA G Kishan Reddy has been declared elected as the new State unit president by the party’s State election incharge and former MP Ramanath Kovid at the BJP State council meeting held here today. Reddy would continue as president till 2013.

In his thanks-giving address, Kishan Reddy said he would strive to popularise the party and strengthen the mass base of the party in the State. Outgoing president B Dattatreya explained to the council about various programmes launched during his tenure.

Forty four-year-old Kishan Reddy is BJP State unit’s youngest president. From an ordinary worker of the party, he rose to become the president of the State unit.

Reddy started his political career as a worker of the youth wing of Janata Party in 1977 and later joined the BJP in 1980. Only one nomination of Kishan Reddy was received for the post and his election as State party’s chief was announced by Ramnath Kovind.

Reddy worked in various capacities in youth wing of the party before becoming national president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

Meanwhile, after a daylong discussions, the BJP State council had passed political resolutions. The meet criticised the Central Government for appointing Justice Srikrishna Committee on the Telangana issue.

The State council, in another resolution, said that the Centre and State Governments have failed to control the prices of essential commodities.

The BJP called its cadre to start a signature campaign and collect 25 lakh signatures against both the governments across the State from March 16 to April 6.

The party asked its district units to make success `Chalo Parliament’ programme scheduled to be held on April 21 at New Delhi.

While addressing the session BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu said that Congress party was not able to deliver Telangana State and said that when BJP comes to power, Telangana State would become a reality.

He opposed the Srikrishna Committee and said if the Congress Government is sincere it should introduce a bill in the Parliament on the Telangana State.

The BJP leader urged the youth not to commit suicides and asked them to continue their fight on the issue.

BJP general secretary Prakash Javadekar urged the party leaders to strengthen the party by exposing the failures of Congress and TDP governments.

BJP national general secretary Satish Ji, former BJP president Bangaru Laxman, BJP leaders V Ramarao, N Indrasena Reddy, Ch Vidyasagar Rao and several other leaders were among those who attended the meeting.
