Kerala Hindus Orphaned

The untimely demise of Jagadguru Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi of Sree Rama Dasa Mission (SRDM) has orphaned the vulnerable majority community of Kerala to a very great extent. We have many swamijis and swaminis in Kerala, but only very few are willing to come down to lead us on the real road of day-today struggle.

The nature of our religion is such that importance is given more to individual pursuit of God rather than collective. Perhaps, the eternal religion (Sanatana Dharma) never envisaged a stage of cut-throat competition from third rate political ideologies masquerading as religions. The sole idea of the native sponsors of these pseudo religions is to dupe vulnerable sections of our society into their account books and collect conversion money from their western sponsors.

Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi was willing to call their bluff and challenge the foreign ‘religioners’ in a defensive mood. He used to always ask “Why wait for the attack to defend? Go for the offensive if we know we are right”. And that is exactly what we should do in his physical absence too.

Hindus the world over, especially Kerala Hindus, must be grateful to him for his greatest contribution in saving Sabarimala from the Vatican plot at Nilackal. But for his timely action, with able back up from leaders like Kummanam, Kidangoor et al, the proposed Cathedral at Nilackal would have cut off the entire pilgrimage to Sabarimala. International conspiracy behind the whole episode is too well known. Vatican and CBCI were forced to beat a retreat only because they saw another Swami Vivekanand in front of the protest rally.

Dark clouds from Vatican are once again targeting Sabarimala and Tirupati in the guise of Samuel Reddy and Jayamala. And Rev. Yohannan has already bought over thousands of acres around Sabarimala to prepare for the second attempt. Political climate is also in their favour with reddish and whitish leaders in power. It is a great loss for us that our bold Swami is no more with us to lead the rally again. But we shall and should succeed once again.

Kerala Hindus must also reflect upon for the decline of SRDM in recent times. Though out of place while remembering a great being, I feel our Swami’s soul will be only happy to note our concerns and care about a mission started by him. The success or failure of any mission depends solely on the ability of its leaders to maintain its focus. There should be several missions in our society and each should have its own pre-defined objective well known to its members and admirers.

SRDM’s objective was to rekindle the vitality of Hindu society in Kerala and to educate the general public, especially Hindus, about the machinations of the Vaticani & Jihadi gangs. The annual Rama Ratha Yathra and Punnyabhoomi newspaper were outstanding attempts in this direction. Their continued success alone could have liberated and rejuvenated Kerala Hindus heped a lot to create awareness among Hindus so far. We can  wish SRDM will once again lead the rudderless boat carrying Kerala Hindus in God’s Own Country.

Regardless of what happens in the future, the signal contributions of Jagadguru Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi in leading our community at some of its toughest testing times will always be remembered. Our condition would have been much worse but for his timely intervention. May the lamps lit by him continue to glow and provide us the guiding light in testing times that lie ahead. He was indeed a great Guru-Reformer in the lineage of Adi Sankara, Sree Narayana, Ayyankali and Chattampi Swamikal.
