Guruvayur Ekadasi today

Guruvayur, Friday, November 27, 2009: The Guruvayur Ekadasi will be observed at the Sree Krishna temple today. The day is also being celebrated as idol installation day and Gita Dinam.

Thousands of devotees have reached Guruvayur on the eve of Ekadasi and they will observe ‘Ekadasi vritham’ at the temple. The temple, which was opened at 3 a.m. on Friday, will remain open till 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The Ekadasi Vilakku celebration at the temple is being conducted by the Devaswom with Udayasthamana Pooja. There will be restriction for entry to Nalambalam between Usha pooja and Uchcha Pooja.

The entry for darshan to the Nalambalam will be allowed through the East Gopuram. Apart from the general queue system at East nada, an additional queue system for women and children devotees has been made at the East Gopuram.

“In addition to the Devaswom employees, all employees from the various educational institutions of the Devaswom have also been deployed at the temple for the smooth conduct of Ekadasi”, said devaswom chairman Thottathil Raveendran.

Nearly 3,000 musicians presented vocal and instrumental concerts till Friday. The recital of five renowned Keerthanams by Thyagaraja Bhagavathar ( Pancharatna Keerthanam ) was performed by nearly 100 musicians on Friday.

Carnatic vocalists Mannoor Rajakumaranunni, Pala C K Ramachandran and N P Ramaswamy and instrumental artists Thiruvananthapuram Surendran, Kuzhalmannam Ramakrishnan, Aluva Gopalakrishnan led the pancharatna keerthanam recital.

The sangeetholsavam will conclude at midnight of Ekadsi day with the Keerthanam ‘Karuna Cheyvan Enthu Thamasam Krishna’-written by Irayimman Thampi.
