Guruvayur Devaswom literary prize for Akitham
GURUVAYUR: Eminent Malayalam poet Akitham Achuthan Namboodiripad has been selected for the prestigious ‘Jnanappana’ literary prize instituted by the Guruvayur Devaswom.
Akitham, who submused in his works tradition and modern trends, was chosen for the award in view of his outstanding contribution to Malayalam literature, the Devaswom authorities said.
The award carries Rs 10,001, citation and memento.
A committee comprising noted writers M Leelavathi, K P Sankaran and Puthur Unnikrishnan made the selection.
The award was instituted after poet Poonthanam, who wrote Jnanappana, a Malayalam devotional classic.
