Ganeshotsavam begins today

Shiv Sena will celebrate Sree Ganeshotsavam 2006 from Thursday to September 1. As part of the celebrations, there pageantry will be organised on September 1 in which thousands of idols of Lord Ganapaty will be carried from the Pazhavangadi Ganapathy temple to Sanghumukham beach to be immersed in the sea.

Actor Jagathi Sreekumar inaugurated Ganeshotsava Vigraha Vilambara procession by distributing idols of Ganapaty to various places of worship in the district on Wednesday. Hundreds of small and big idols were made under the supervision of Shiv Sena head office for various units in the district for placing and worshiping during the festival days.

The idols will be placed at various places on Thursday and people will worship the lord eight days and on the ninth day the idols will be immersed in the sea.

Over 3,000 idols from various places will be carried in the pageantry scheduled on September 1. The charm attached with the festival has brought even foreigners to the district. A Spanish team comprising 16 members headed by Angella Sanz, director of International School of Ayurveda and Culture, Barcelona visited the Shiv Sena office here and the place where the idols are being made. Foreigners will take part in the celebrations also.

Various activities like Annadanam, signing of eye-donation consent forms, cultural competitions, quiz competitions, etc are also conducted with the Ganeshotsvam.
