Forgetting our Heroes?

via Padmakumar published on September 30, 2007

The 28th day of September, 2007 passed off without even a small percentage of Indians realizing that it was the 100th birthday of one of the greatest sons of Mother India, Shahid Bhagat Singh. Of course, a few dedicated individuals did remember and marked the occasion by paying tributes to that great soul who passed the baton of freedom movement to the young generation. He lived and died for one thing he valued the most in his life…his Mother Nation.

However, it is very painful to note that Govt. of India did never make an honest attempt to celebrate this great occasion. Obviously this was not unexpected. It is outright foolish to even imagine his name being spelt by the Government.

Ever since independence, it has been a habit to eclipse the real contributors of the freedom movement, so that one particular family takes away all credit. Thanks to the continuous planned propaganda, the younger generations have not even heard about great leaders like Tilak, Savarkar, Bhagat Singh, Azad etc. The only freedom fighters we today know are Gandhi, Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Robert Wadhera etc. Yeah, for your kind information, Gandhi no longer denotes Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, but our Madam Sonia Antonio Maino Gandhi).

Touch your heart and say, are we not a thankless lot?
