Ekadasi Vilakku celebration by judicial courts today
GURUVAYUR: The century-old Ekadasi Vilakku celebration by the judicial courts at Chavakkad will be held at the Sree Krishna temple here on Saturday.
Munsif Keyi had instituted the ‘court vilakku’ at the temple more than a century ago. This year, the vilakku is offered as the ‘Sampoorna Ney (Ghee) Vilakku’.
Chief Justice S R Bannurmatt and eight other judges of the High Court, magistrates, munsifs and advocates from various parts of the State will arrive at Guruvayur to attend the vilakku celebration offered by the courts and advocates. Various cultural programmes, including Chakyarkoothu by Painkulam Narayana Chakyar and bhakthi ganamela by High Court orchestra, Raganeethi, will be presented at the Melpathur auditorium.
The State Bank of Travancore which is conducting the Ekadasi Vilakku for the last 24 years will offer the 25th year vilakku celebrat i o n with Sampoor na Neyvilakku and cultural programmes on Sunday. Managing director A K Jagannadhan, employees from SBT branches and senior officers from various zonal and regional offices will attend the ekadasi vilakku this year.
A K Jagannathan will also inaugurate the day-long cultural programmes held in connection with vilakku celebration at Melpathur auditorium, said SBT Chief manager K V Sanjeev. A ganamel a l ed by Madhu Balakrishnan will be held at Melpathur auditorium on Sunday evening. The vilakku celebration on Friday was performed as an offering by the temple hereditary employees with Kazhchzsiveli in the morning and evening.
