retina-imgPalakkad: Mata Amritanandamayi Devi has called for the need for value based education, asserting that the biggest curse of today’s society is the kind of education imparted, which stands distanced from eternal values. Education is something that has to be given utmost importance at a time the world is in a mad rat race for material benefits.

Addressing the audience at Puthur Madhom in connection with the anniversary celebrations of Brahmasthana Kshetram, Mata Amritanandamayi said that innovations that spurns culture, development that ignores nature, life style overlooking health are some of the curses that have taken over society.

“Learning is augmented by humility. But today it has gone to different realms like showing irreverence to teachers, strikes to prevent educational institutions from functioning, use of drugs and other narcotics. Today it is a process by which a set of information that is in the teacher’s intellect is transferred to the student’s brain. Butreal education is totally different, which should include character refinement, nurturing of values and talents, commitment towards nation and society,” said Mata Amritanandamayi.
