Do’s and Dont’s in Sabarimala

via Rtn.Mohanakannan published on November 17, 2008

As the ayyappan season is on I have the following request to make:

Lord Ayyappan at Sabarimala is a reflection of divine power of millions of devotees. Is it not our duty to follow the traditional Vritham for 41 days and maintain the sanctity of the unique way of worship with absolute reverence and pass it on to the future generations.

Do not smoke!
Do not drink!
Do not get excited about girls or sex!
Do not harm anyone!
Do not do any thing that you do not want others to do for you!

Remember! Pilgrimage to Sabarima is not a Vacation. Hence your penance has to be pious and stick to the traditional rules.

Please Observe the following Rules-

Do not climb Pathinettam Padi without observing proper vrutham and carrying Irumudikettu.

Do not urinate/defecate in public places, especially near Pampa river.

Please use latrines only to answer the call of nature.

Please do not discard your garments in Pampa river.

Please do not carry carry along any plastic bags. Use only bio-degradable paper or cloth bags.

Please deposit `Sarams’ at `Saramkuthi’ and not at `Sabari Peedam’.

After, Pampa Sadya, please do not throw leftovers into Pampa river.

Please do not break coconuts on Pathinetam padi. Do so only at designated places.

After cooking food, please extinguish all fires by throwing water on them.

Please do not light `Camphor’ except at designated places.
