‘Ayyappan Vilakku’ at Kerala’s only Lava- Kusha temple on Dec 9

Pulpally, Wayanad district: The annual Ayyappan Vilakku festival of the Seetha- Lava- Kusha Temple here in the district will be celebrated on December 9, the Festval Celecration Committee officials announced during a press conference.

All the rites and ceremonies in connection with the Ayyappan Vilakku festival will begin with the performance of Ganapathi Homam at the temple at 5 a.m. on 9th this month.

A mass Annadanam will take place at 12 p.m. after the Utcha Pooja on the same day.

‘Purappadu’ from the Seethadevi temple maidan, 5 p.m.; after reaching ‘Chedattil Kavu’, Palakkombu Ezhunnallippu, 6.45 a.m.; Bhajana, 9.30 p.m to 10 p.m. ;Appam Vaaral, 10 p.m to 10.30 p.m.; Thayambaka Pooja by Varadoor Sreedharan and Party, 10.30 p.m- 12.00 a.m.

The Shaastham Paattu will be prformed at 1 a.m.; Petta Vili and Palkindi Ezhunnallathu, 2.30 a.m.; Polippaattu, 3 a.m.; Palkindi Thattam and Thiri Uzhichil, 4 a.m.; Kanalaattam and Vettum Thadayum, 5 a.m.; Guruthi Tharppanam and Koora Azhikkal, 6 a.m.


The Ayyappan Vilakku will be organized by Asan Vazhavatta Bharathan Swami and Party of ‘Sri Rama Kshethram Anushtana Ayyappan Vilakku Sangham’.

Seetha Lava Kusha Temple is known to be the only temple in Kerala dedicated to Lava and Kusha, the sons of Lord Rama.


Local legends connect this region with many important episodes from the Ramayana.


As the favoured shrine of the Pazhassi Raja, this temple has traditionally permitted entry to devotees from all faiths.The temple is 25 km away from Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district
