Amma’s 55th Birthday Celebrations

300,000 devotees to take part in Amritanandamayi’s birthday

KOLLAM: Close to 300,000 devotees of Mata Amritanandamayi, better known as Amma, will take part in her 55th birthday celebrations here Saturday, an official said.

Swami Amritaswaroopananda, second-in-command of the ashram, Friday said all arrangements are in place and the function would begin with the ‘gurupadapuja’ (a prayer) followed by Amma’s message.

There will be distribution of free clothing to the poor. Besides, Amma will also conduct free marriages of poor couples.

Singers like Vani Jayaram and Jayachandran would participate at a function in the evening.

Over the years, Amma has done a lot of charity work for the downtrodden across the country and even abroad when she built houses in Sri Lanka after the 2004 tsunami, an official said.
