SIMI -Terrorist under arrest from Ahmedabad

In Surat Also -two cars stuffed with explosives being found and a live bomb defused and a SIMI activist was arrested in connection with the serial blasts in Ahmedabad where the death toll mounted to 49.

The bomb disposal squad defused two live bombs today, one each in Ahmedabad and Surat

The latest terrorist act has again highlighted the need for a firm and effective anti-terrorist legal framework. The Gujarat Assembly has passed a law on the lines of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. It is pending with the President for assent for four years. A similar legislation for Rajasthan is also awaiting the President’s assent. I demand the Union Government immediately recommend Presidential assent to these two legislations, whose need has been underscored by the repeal of POTA –

Where are the culprits?- How long will people be satisfied with routine officialese saying blasts are handiwork of LeT, JeM, HUJI or the Indian Mujahideen?

UPA – 598 people have died and many more injured in jihadi attacks outside J&K since the UPA came to power in the summer of 2004.

UPA Over all Tally -The loss of lives is much higher if separatist violence in J&K and in the North-East, and Maoist violence in other States are factored in. The overall tally for UPA years would be at least 5,272.
