Varun mocks Maya’s idol love
Raj Bahadur Singh | Sujanganj (Jaunpur) – Daily Pioneer

The national secretary of the BJP, Varun Gandhi, lashed out at Chief Minister Mayawati in a humorous yet appealing way by touching upon the Hindutva issue.

Although Varun Gandhi spoke only for half-an-hour at Sujanganj Junior High School Ground, some 200 km from the State capital, his speech concerned everyone — farmers, woman, poor and youth.

Mentioning the Dantewada tragedy, Varun said that when he met the mother of one of the slain CRPF jawans from UP, she said her concern was not money but honour for her martyr son. She requested the administration to allow her to install a martyr’s statue but it was denied by the Government. “When Mayawati is installing her own statues costing hundred of crores, how can a mother be denied to install the statue of her martyr son,” Varun asked the crowd.

Amid thousands of people, the newly-appointed national secretary of the BJP said that Poorvanchal will become centre of the new revolution with the youth having the lead role. Praising the youth for their bravery and self-respect, he assured them that even if they committed a mistake he would stand by them. He said the need of the hour was to make the youth self-reliant and if voted to power either at the Centre or at the State, the BJP Government will provide an interest-free loan of Rs 10 lakh to every youth.

His aggression on Hindutva surfaced in his speech. He called upon the followers of Lord Rama to unite and prevent cow-slaughter and save the Ganges from turning into a drain. He also emphasised on construction of a temple in every village and renovation of dilapidated ones. Varun said he won’t tolerate insult of people. “If we want to revive the BJP we must be ready to go to jail even if one of our party workers is insulted,” he said.

Calling Mayawati anti-poor, he said that during the Chief Ministers’ meeting, held two months back, most of them requested to raise the number of BPL cards (red cards) but the UP Government in writing said that the poor in the State were satisfied and UP does not want a single BPL card.” By adding up the BPL cardholders, would she have lost her weight,” Varun asked. “Mayawati has gained 10 kg weight in the last two years but mine has reduced,” he said adding some humour to his speech.

Varun Gandhi on his arrival was greeted with slogans like — Varun nahin yeh andhi hain, kal ka Sanjay Gandhi hai and Varun Gandhi tere naam, bhari jawani hai kurban.

The Sujanganj meeting, in Garwara Assembly segment of Jaunpur district, was organised by local BJP MLA Seema Dwivedi and was attended by party leaders of more than a dozen districts of eastern UP. The former State BJP chief, Keshari Nath Tripathi, State vice-president Hriday Narayan Dixit, State general secretary Mahendra Singh, party president of Kashi Prant Mahendra Pandey and others also spoke on the occasion.
