Naxal menace -Stop political brinkmanship and urgently treats it as terrorism demands OF BJP-USA

via Overseas Friends of BJP -Press Release published on June 2, 2010

On behalf of the Indian American community, OF BJP-USA deeply expresses its condolences to the passengers of the ill-fated Gyaneshwari deluxe train. OFBJP-USA has been highlighting the lurking dangers of Naxal menace, a threat to the 62 years of India’s democratic existence. However, yet again, the UPA-2 government is engaged in the brinkmanship pandering to their political exigencies. Dr. Adapa Prasad, OFBJP President aptly asks,

o Yet another Naxal attack (this time on a super fast train) and all the UPA-2 Government can do is to announce compensation for the casualties of terror?
o Are Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi afraid of their own personal safety that they cannot support their own Home minister against this spreading cancer?
o Is Mamata Banerjee so blinded by the political considerations that she lost vision for India?

Recently, Dr. Manmohan Singh in a press conference accepted that the Naxalism is the biggest internal security challenge ever faced by the country. Yet, the UPA-2 has been talking in different voices, sending confusing signals to the security establishment and tries to shift blame to the states. Even though a strategy is in place involving joint operations by central and state forces, sustained campaigning by Maoist sympathizing organizations, and individuals along with leaders like Mamata Banerjee, against use of force have crippled the Home ministry’s ‘Clear-Hold-Build’ approach.

It is unfortunate to see Mr. P Chidambaram not being backed by the Cabinet when he sought force-multipliers for the combatants while people of India witnessing the rapid militarization of the Maoists. Bleeding hearts and self goal scorers such as Sonia Gandhi, Machiavellian Diggi Raja, and clueless CWC member Keshav Rao parrots an oft-repeated pro-development approach to fight the Maoists, while washing their anti-Maoist policy linen in the public, much to the despair of Indian public. The Maoists are obviously rejoicing over this government bickering and boldly launching the terrorist activities from Pashupathi to Tirupathi.

Shri Chandrakant Patel, OFBJP Organizing Secretary summarizes the demand of Indian Americans that while security forces and civilians are facing the brunt of Naxal terrorism in places such as Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, and Chhattisgarh, UPA-2 government should stop looking at the political exigencies and formulate a cohesive and coordinated response in cooperation with opposition parties and respective state governments.

There is no other way out and India should learn from its past mistakes.
