TIGER BROTHERS ATTEMPT CARNAGE ON TRACKS

A hand-written note, signed by

“Brothers of honourable Prabhakaran (the slain Tiger chief)”, was found near the tracks condemning the red-carpet welcome given to Rajapaksa. “We condemn the support extended to him by the Indian and Tamil Nadu governments in exterminating the Tamil race. Tamils, our silence cannot be tolerated any longer,” the note said.

Reports the Telegraph from Calcutta-

When the Rockfort Express crossed Mundiyambakkam, its driver Gopalnath Rao was alerted. Rao reduced the speed by almost half to around 40km an hour, and told his assistant to keep a close vigil on the tracks ahead. Soon, the assistant driver spotted the missing tracks ahead, prompting Rao to apply the emergency brakes. “It would have been a huge disaster if the train had crossed the stretch,” said railway DIG Pon Manikavel.

High Time to book Seemans and Nedumarans Under NSA?

The police have launched a hunt for the perpetrators. “It is a disturbing development and may lead to a crackdown on pro-LTTE groups, especially the fringe elements,” said a senior intelligence officer.

It is high time the Tamilnadu and Central Government which had been soft balling the fringe of Tiger supporters and round them to serve time. The intelligence community sources note that Seeman had gone on a state wide tour and recently addressed gatherings of LTTE supporters, inflaming them with his fiery rants against the Indians and the Government. Before peace loving innocents lose their lives to their demented attempt to carve out a Fascist State in Elam that they dream of extending it here.

According to B.Raman the Counter-Terrorism expert

It is difficult to assess with some accuracy the risks of a revival of the Tamil militancy in some form or the other in Sri Lanka as well as in Tamil Nadu. Motivated individuals, who are prepared to give vent to their anger by using terrorism, are available.

However, one cannot rule out the dangers of a revival of a terrorist movement by the unaccounted for remnants of the LTTE in Sri Lanka as well as in Tamil Nadu- one cannot rule out the dangers of a revival of a terrorist movement by the unaccounted remnants of the LTTE in Sri Lanka as well as in Tamil Nadu grimly points this expert analyst of International Terrorism.

Indian Government must get tough with Rajapakse to deliver on promise

Raman chillingly points out the grim possibility that is emerging-

So long as these remnants with the required expertise are available, a determined and motivated Tamil leader can rally them round and create sleeper cells for a new Tamil militant movement. A new generation of Tamil militant leadership is not yet on the horizon a year after the decimation of the LTTE.

However, there is still anger in pockets of the Tamil communities in Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu over the manner in which the Sri Lankan Army carried out its counter-insurgency operations and over what is seen as foot-dragging by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in carrying out his assurances for a fair political settlement made to the Tamils before the LTTE was crushed. Now that the LTTE has been crushed, he is no longer showing a sense of urgency and fairplay in addressing the problems and grievances of the Tamils.
