Nagpur: Senior RSS Pracharak Shankar Sastriji (90) passed away here at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. Mortal remains were bought to Nagpur his home town. Hundreds paid tribute to him at RSS Karyalay in Nagpur.

Shankar Sastri was instrumental in the growth of RSS in Kerala. Sastriji who reached Kerala in 1943 with the blessings of Guruji Golwalkar sown seeds of patriotism in Malabar region. Growth of RSS in these early days can be attributed to the selfless service and praiseworthy leadership of this great leader.

He was the inspirational source behind bringing first generation pracharaks like swargeeya Madhav ji to Sangh and establishment of first ever hindutva weekly of Kerala i.e. Kesari  from Calicut. He was instrumental in the historical ‘shudhi’ of Ramasimhan of Angadippuram (a muslim named Uneen Sahib who returned back to vedic religion and was brutally killed by muslim fanatics in 1947) with the Arya Samaj.

Sastriji extended his Karmabhoomi to coastal and tribal regions of Malabar. Renowned Seva projects like Vivekananda Mission in Waynad were made possible by the guidance of tSastriji.  By the time Sastriji left to Tamilnadu in 1957 to continue his yeomen service to Nation , RSS had taken deep roots in Kerala.

Sastriji left his profession as Civil Engineer and become a RSS pracharak and used his engineering skills in Nation building and reconstruction. Let us pay tributes to this great visionary who dedicated his whole life for Bharath Matha.
